The Ministries of our Church
Blessed Sabbath, Berean! News Flash: Somali pirates kill four Americans--Tunisian Revolution Sparked by Man Who Doused Himself with Gasoline—Egyptian Dictator Mubarak Ousted from Power—Libyan Dictator Colonel Gaddafi’s Fate Hangs in the Balance—New Zealand Suffers Devastating Earthquake—Detroit Set to Close One-Half of Its Public Schools—Wisconsin Democrats in Hiding as Unrest Grows Over Anti-Union Bill—U.S. Government Poised for Government Shutdown—Winter Snowstorms Reach Unprecedented Totals. What else can happen? Well, job stability is at an all time low as employers are negotiating to reduce salaries, retirement and health care benefits; foreclosures are continuing to rock the economy; unemployment benefits are running out for hundreds of thousands; and local governments are cutting services and lobbying to increase taxes! It’s not that "these things" haven’t happened in the past, but the difference is the scope, intensity and frequency in which these "events" are occurring. This sad state of affairs can cause even the stoutest of hearts to melt with fear and trepidation.
The Word of God has declared that, "there shall be a time of trouble, such as never was since there was a nation." Daniel 12:1. As frightening as it is to imagine, our world is poised for the greatest devastation it has ever witnessed. All arenas—political, economic, physical, social, spiritual—are teetering upon the brink of destruction and/or decay. There is no doubt that our Lord is soon to come. "Seeing then that all these things shall be dissolved, what manner of persons ought you to be?" II Peter 3:11. What a thought-provoking question! While we can’t control or stop the things that are coming upon the earth, we can prepare ourselves and our children to meet Jesus in peace. And our Lord doesn’t want us to fret over the things that are happening in the world. He says, "Because you have kept the word of my patience, I also will keep you from the hour of
temptation, which shall come upon all the world, to try them that dwell upon the earth." Rev.3:10. Thank you, Jesus!
Berean, now is not the time to become lax in preparing our children for what’s coming upon the earth and for Jesus’ Second Coming. Christian education is the preparatory school to get our children ready. Let’s continue to support this worthwhile ministry by placing our generous love gifts in the baskets that are brought to us by the children at Offering time or in a tithe envelope (indicate the amount on the Education line). Thank you for your generosity.
