The Ministries of our Church
Spotlight 2 4 2012
Blessed Sabbath, Berean! Have you ever felt like youʻre enshrouded in darkness and the light cannot pierce the darkness? I have. I think thatʼs why God reminded us that His word is a lamp unto our feet and a light unto our pathway. There was a time when people traveling through the night would attach little lamps to their feet to give them enough light to see a few steps in front of them. As long as they kept moving, they could find their way. If they stopped moving, so did the light. But it can be difficult to keep moving in faith when we canʼt see where weʼre going. When trusting Godʼs ability to “see” ahead for us, we canʼt allow our feelings to sabotage us. Our feelings can convince us that thereʼs little hope for our dreams to come true...that our employment situation will never change for the better...that God has forgotten us and all the promises Heʼs made. But no matter how dark it gets, weʼve got to keep moving because this is the only way to find the Light.
Yet we have to admit that there have been times when weʼve tried to “fix” our problems by making our own “light,” asking for Godʼs help only when weʼve exhausted all our resources. I thank God that Heʼs a forgiving, understanding God. Doubting that God can lead us safely through the dark places in our lives is one of Satanʼs favorite tools. He uses it to discourage us, tempting us to take our eyes off the Light. Hold on to the promise that Jesus will not, cannot lie to us. Hear Him as He says, “I will bring the blind by a way they did not know; I will lead them in paths they have not known. I will make darkness light before them, and crooked places straight. These things I will do for them, and not forsake them.” Isaiah 42:16.
Berean, letʼs continue to support Christian education so our young people will know where to turn when lifeʼs dark days assail them. You may do this by placing your love gifts in the baskets that are brought to you by the children at Offering time or in a tithe envelope (indicate amount on the Education/ Scholarship line). Thanks so much.
